One Week to go Until Important Mayoral Vote

Tees Valley Mayor | Published on: 27th April 2017

Residents of the Tees Valley are being urged to seize TWO opportunities to steer the future of their area.

With one week to go until polling for a Tees Valley Mayor on Thursday, May 4, and then just five weeks until a general election, people are being urged to make their voices heard.

It’s just days until people in Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees can have their say on how radical new powers coming to the Tees Valley will be used to their advantage.

The Tees Valley Mayor will lead the area’s growth strategy – helping to bring about new jobs, housing and improved transport.

They will work with the next government – putting the interests of the Tees Valley first.

The Tees Valley Mayor will work with the five existing Councils, to drive forward the economic growth of the area as a whole.

The decision to create the role of Tees Valley Mayor has unlocked new funding and responsibilities to be exercised in the Tees Valley, for the people of the area.

It means decisions about transport, skills and education, homes, cultural facilities, attracting inward investment and encouraging business growth, can be made locally, rather than in London.

Polling for the Tees Valley Mayor takes place on Thursday, May 4.

Those registered to vote should have received a polling card with details of the polling station which they should attend.
