Darlington is the location for the the British Cycling National Road Championships Circuit Races, which take place in the early evening of Friday 21st June

Riders will face a tricky, technical circuit through the town’s tree-lined suburbs and town centre streets with plenty of opportunities for exciting racing.

The races promise to deliver an exhilarating midsummer’s evening of top-class cycling in Darlington town centre with the chance to cheer on the UK’s best riders.

How to get there

Public Transport

  • Train – Darlington train station is a short distance away from the route. Regular direct trains services into Darlington run to/from Redcar, Middlesbrough, Thornaby, Yarm and Eaglescliffe. For further information please visit the National Rail website.
  • Bus – Buses will be routed away from the town centre loop during the event.

Road

Please ensure you follow the road diversions along the route to allow you get to get the car parks.

Parking

Multi storey Feethams cark park with 650 spaces including 33 blue badge spaces and 10 electric charging points. £1 per hour.

Bike Parking

Sheltered, lockable parking shed located on Town Hall Plaza.

Sustrans will have a pop-up space where you can get tips and advice on cycling.

Best routes to get to the Town Hall postcode DL1 5QT.

Via the cycle route from the River Skerne as the road in front of Town Hall is the race route plus at the DL1 end of the town hall is steps rather than flat/ramp access.

Road Closures

Closures will be in place on West Row, Blackwellgate, Houndgate, Feethams (past the Town Hall), Church Row, Tubwell Row, Crown Street, Northgate (town centre end) and Prebend Row.

A range of temporary road closures and restrictions will be in place for the event. Full details can be found on Darlington Borough Council’s website here.

Accessible Toilets & Parent Room

The Dolphin Centre has cubicle and accessible toilets on each floor of the building.

Access to each floor is via steps or lift.

Ground floor – accessible toilet with bed changing facility (gain access via reception team).

First floor – quiet parent room, accessible toilet with changing table and cubicle toilets.

Second floor – accessible toilet (no bed), cubicle toilets.
