To celebrate the start of LNER’s direct service from Middlesbrough to London, we are shouting about all the reasons why you should book your ticket now and come up north!

The daily weekday service is the first direct link between Middlesbrough and the capital and tickets are on sale now.

So swap the bustling streets of a big city with beautiful landscapes and unforgettable experiences as you explore Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees.

Rolling countryside

It’s not so grim up north! You might be surprised to discover that the Tees Valley has an abundance of amazing outdoor spaces and rolling countryside, so why not escape all the hustle and bustle and explore the region?

Wind you way through the towering trees in Guisborough Forest where you will discover sculpture trails and walking and cycling routes for all to enjoy. The forest also provides a gateway to the magnificent North York Moors National Park, making it the perfect place for those wanting to explore their wild side.

Discover stunning scenery and nature at Albert Park or Fairy Dell Park, two Middlesbrough-based beauty spots you won’t want to miss!

Swap building blocks for blue skies as you explore a variety of breathtaking landscapes along a stretch of the 109-mile-long Cleveland Way or take a refreshing riverside stroll along the Teesdale Way, which takes in a variety of must-see spots like Yarm High Street, Tees Barrage Park, The Riverside Stadium and more.

Whilst you’re exploring, why not enjoy real ale by a roaring fire in one of the Tees Valley’s cosy pubs. You’ll find a pint is considerably cheaper too!

A breathtaking coastline

Award-winning beaches, spectacular seafronts and charming coastal towns, the Tees Valley really has it all.

Swap city for coast as you explore the beloved seaside town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea. This coastal hotspot has scooped multiple awards and is home to cobbled streets and charming Victorian buildings, as well as a hub of independent businesses and attractions. Enjoy the views from the North East’s only remaining pleasure pier, take a ride on Saltburn Cliff Tramway and feel the sand between your toes as you explore the Blue Flag beach. If you’re feeling peckish head to the Seaview Restaurant for a crab brioche roll (as seen on BBC’s Remarkable Places to Eat) or pop to Signals to try ‘parmo loaded fries’, a local delicacy with a twist!

Immerse yourself in heritage as you discover the Hartlepool Coastline. Spot a seal at Seaton Common and Dunes, unwind with authentic wood-fired pizza from Napoli at Seaton Carew beach and head to The National Museum of the Royal Navy on Hartlepool Marina to see the oldest war ship still afloat in Europe, HMS Trincomalee.

Retreat to Redcar Seafront to enjoy panoramic coastal views from The Beacon’s viewing platform and make a pit stop at Pacittos to try the region’s iconic “lemon top” ice cream, before finding a quiet spot on the secluded sands of Marske Sands Beach.

On water adventures

Channel your inner adrenaline junkie or enjoy a revitalising on water experience in the Tees Valley.

Get your blood pumping with a powerboat ride from On Water Training or enjoy an exhilarating journey around the Olympic standard white-water rafting course at Tees Barrage.

If you’re looking for a more leisurely experience, why not paddleboard amongst the beautiful surroundings of Preston Park Museum & Grounds, or ride a wave at Saltburn beach? Whether you’re a surfing supernova or a beginner waning to learn, the experts at Saltburn Surf School and Flow Surf School are on hand to help you!

Exhilarating experiences

Step out of your comfort zone and on to the UK’s biggest adventure high ropes course as you take on Air Tail. If you’re feeling daring, soar through the air on a zip wire or dart straight to the top to find impressive views of the Tees Valley.

Feel the rush of racing round the UK’s longest circuit at Teesside Karting or take to the skies for pure adrenaline and picturesque views across the region with Eden Flight Training.
