Heugh Battery Museum

Explore a faithfully restored 19th century coastal defence battery. This North-East visitor attraction boasts a unique history, being the only area to have seen ship-to-shore combat during the First World War.  The Heugh Battery continued to play a part in coastal defence throughout World War II and up until 1956 with the coastal artillery forces were disbanded.  The exhibits tell the story of those who lost their lives, military and civilian and the brave men who defended the area.  Visit the original barrack room, now an exciting visitor centre, original underground magazines and observation tower.  The museum regularly hosts groups of re-enactors of various eras at events throughout the year.  You will find lots of other events on site too, including craft fayres, pirate days and car boot sales.  On site there is Poppy Tea Rooms offering light bites and fabulous cakes and scones baked on site, to have with a pot of tea or cup of Dancing Goat coffee.
